How is a contact's subscription status managed?

Managing a contact’s subscription status is essential for maintaining a healthy email list, ensuring compliance, and delivering a positive experience for your recipients. Maileroo makes it simple to track, update, and manage each contact's status effectively. Here’s how it works:

1. Subscription Statuses in Maileroo

Each contact in Maileroo is assigned one of the following statuses:

  • Subscribed: The contact has actively opted in to receive emails and will be included in your campaigns unless you remove them or they decide to opt-out.
  • Unsubscribed: The contact has opted out of future communications by clicking an unsubscribe link or by choosing to stop receiving emails from your brand.

2. How Subscription Statuses Are Updated

For each campaign, ensure that your email includes an {{ unsubscribe_url }} link in the content, whether as a button, hyperlink, or within a text box. This dynamically inserts our built-in subscription management service into your email, enabling recipients who wish to opt-out to easily manage their subscription preferences.

3. Managing Unsubscribed Contacts

Maileroo automatically handles the unsubscribing process to ensure compliance. When a contact unsubscribes:

  • They are immediately moved to the “Unsubscribed” status.
  • They will not receive any further emails from your campaigns unless they re-subscribed.

Your unsubscribe page will look similar to the following image below. Once the user clicks the 'Unsubscribe' button, they will be prompted with a little feedback form that will provide you with some feedback on better engaging with your audience.

If the contact has accidentally unsubscribed they can resubscribe by clicking the button on the screen above or through your email collection form.

4. Best Practices for Managing Subscription Statuses

  • Keep Your List Clean: Regularly monitor your list to identify bounced and unengaged contacts.
  • Respect Unsubscribes: Always allow contacts to unsubscribe easily, and respect their choice.
  • Use Double Opt-In for Higher Quality: Double opt-in reduces the likelihood of invalid emails and improves your list’s engagement rates.

Following these guidelines ensures that your contacts receive relevant content while keeping your Maileroo account compliant and optimized for better deliverability and engagement.
