Connect your AI assistant to Maileroo and ask about your account in plain English instead of digging through the dashboard. The assistant looks things up in your account and, if you allow it, takes action for you.

For example, you could ask:

  • "Why did my emails bounce yesterday?"

  • "Is my new domain set up yet?"

  • "What is my current Maileroo plan?"

This article covers setup, choosing an access level, what the connector can and can't do, and how to stay in control.

Before you begin

You'll need:

  • A Maileroo account you can sign in to. No API key is required.

  • An AI assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code.

  • To send email: at least one verified domain with a sending key. You can create a sending key under Domains → your domain → Sending Keys.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to other services safely. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and a growing list of other apps support it.

You don't need to know how it works. You only need the Maileroo MCP server URL:

https://api.maileroo.com/mcp

Set up the connector

Setup takes about a minute. You sign in with your normal Maileroo login, and your assistant receives its own secure connection.

Claude (web or desktop)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.

  2. Click Browse connectors and search for Maileroo.

  3. Click Connect. A Maileroo tab opens.

  4. Sign in to Maileroo and choose an access level (see below).

ChatGPT

1. Open Settings.

2. Go to Plugins.

3. Click Browse directory.

4. Click Add in the top right, then select Create MCP App.

5. Fill in the details: - Name: Maileroo - Server URL: https://api.maileroo.com/mcp - Authentication: leave this set to OAuth

6. Click Create.

7. Sign in to Maileroo and choose an access level.

Cursor

  1. Add the following to your mcp.json file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "maileroo": {
      "url": "https://api.maileroo.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
  1. The first time you use the connector, Cursor asks you to sign in with Maileroo. Sign in and choose an access level.

Other apps

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in should work.

  1. Look for an option such as Add MCP server or Custom connector.

  2. Paste https://api.maileroo.com/mcp.

  3. Sign in to Maileroo and choose an access level.

Choose an access level

After you sign in, Maileroo asks how much the assistant can do. If you're not sure, start with Read only. You can reconnect with more access later.

Access level

What the assistant can do

Read only

Look things up: usage, statistics, domains, logs, suppressions, templates, webhooks and more. It can't send or change anything.

Read and send

Everything in Read only, plus send, resend and schedule email, and cancel scheduled email.

Full access

Everything above, plus manage your account: add or delete domains, create SMTP accounts and sending keys, edit templates, set up webhooks and inbound routes, and more.

Note: Some apps request limited access from the start. In that case the higher options appear greyed out, because Maileroo never lets you grant more than the app requested.

What you can ask

Use plain language. You don't need to name any tools.

  • "How much of my sending limit have I used this month?"

  • "Look at yesterday's logs and tell me why some emails bounced."

  • "Is anything wrong with my domain's DNS setup?"

  • "I just updated my DNS records. Can you check again?"

  • "Is anyone on my suppression list who shouldn't be?"

  • "Send a thank-you email from [email protected] to these five customers."

  • "Schedule this newsletter for Monday at 9am."

  • "Set up a webhook that tells my server about bounces and complaints."

The assistant can also chain steps together. Ask "Why isn't my new domain sending?" and it may check your DNS records, spot a missing DKIM record, and tell you exactly what to add at your DNS provider.

How you stay in control

Letting an AI send email on your behalf is a big deal, so the connector has several safeguards.

  • Confirmation first. Before sending, deleting or rotating anything, the assistant is instructed to confirm with you. You'll usually see a summary of the recipients and content, and nothing goes out until you say yes. Most apps also ask you to approve each action.

  • No credentials in chat. Sending keys, SMTP passwords, webhook secrets and application credentials never appear in the conversation. When the assistant creates or rotates one, it points you to the Maileroo dashboard to copy it. The connector uses a hidden key behind the scenes, but that key stays on Maileroo's servers.

  • Your domains only. The assistant can only send from verified domains in your account.

  • Easy to revoke. You can disconnect an app at any time.

Manage or disconnect connected apps

Only the account owner can see and manage connected apps.

  1. Click your profile and open My Account.

  2. Go to Connected Apps (next to Two-Factor Authentication and Passkeys). Each app shows its access level and when it was connected.

  3. To revoke access, click Disconnect. Access is cut off immediately, and the app must sign in again to regain it.

Limits

These limits keep conversations fast and mistakes small.

Recipients per email - 50, across To, CC and BCC

Bulk send - 100 messages per request, all from the same domain

Attachments - 10 files, 512 KB total

Scheduling - Up to 21 days ahead

Long results, such as large log searches, are shortened. The assistant sees that the list was cut and can narrow the search or ask for the next page.

Your normal plan limits still apply. Email sent through the connector counts toward your quota like any other email.

Troubleshooting

"This connection only has read access"

You chose Read only when connecting. Disconnect the app under Connected Apps, then reconnect and choose Read and send.

"The domain has no sending key yet"

The connector sends through one of your domain's sending keys. Create one under Domains → your domain → Sending Keys, then try again.

The assistant says a domain isn't in your account

Check the spelling, and make sure you signed in to the right Maileroo account. This is common if you have more than one account.

The email was "queued" but never arrived

Queued means Maileroo accepted the email, not that it was delivered. Ask the assistant to check the logs for that email. It has a reference ID it can look up, and the logs usually explain what happened.

The sign-in window never opens

Check that your browser isn't blocking pop-ups from your AI app. If it still fails, remove the connector and add it again.
